Gardner's
Multiple Intelligences |
| Howard Gardner recognizes that all humans possess at least seven areas of
intelligence, each area being related to a specific area of the brain. Gardner
defines the intelligence as: |
- The ability to create an effective product or offer a service that it valuable in one's
culture.
- A set of skills that enables an individual to solve problems encountered in life.
- The potential for finding or creating solutions for problems, which enables a person to
acquire new knowledge.
| Gardner's theory of the multiple intelligences can be applied by
educators in the following ways by: |
- cultivating desired capabilities and talents in our students.
- approaching a concept, subject matter, or discipline in a variety of ways.
- personalizing education as we take human differences seriously.
| We have provided a listing of seven of Gardner's eight identified
multiple intelligences with a brief profile of each. Use this profile to help
identify the types of learners you have in your classroom and to find areas that need to
be addressed. |
